To get to 10% we are going to need major changes to our food system including buy-in from institutional players and major inroads to our current supply system. Change has to happen from where we currently are...while we're waiting for our leaders to catch on, let's look at things that we can do immediately and as individuals to ignite this change!

Action: Find out the 10 foods Michigan grows best and eat more of those
Info: Ask your grocer what's in the store that is grown in Michigan
Action: ask your grocer to stock more Michigan produce, and get your friends to do the same
Info: Find the Project Grow or Growing Hope garden closest to your house
Action: if the park nearest your home doesn't have a community garden, start one
Info: Ask at your child's school what food in the school lunch was grown in Michigan
Action: volunteer to help your child's school start a farm-to-school lunch program
Info: Go to one of our local farmers markets and find out the names of three farmers
Action: join a community lending program to help a new farmer get started
Info: Ask at a restaurant what's on the menu that is grown in Michigan
Action: start a local-food non-restaurant in your own kitchen and invite all your friends over and dedicate the proceeds toward funding more local farms
Info: Find out if your child's school has a four-season garden project
Action: start one!
Info: Walk your neighborhood and talk to the people who grow food
Action: Plant an edible landscape in your front yard or grow herbs on your balcony
